SUMMARY:SciFest: Lasers and Lightsabers
DESCRIPTION:Experience an immersive presentation where groundbreaking science meets the magic of filmmaking. Brian Lindow draws on years of experience at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and nearly a decade working at Skywalker Ranch to bring an engaging program to audiences of all ages. \nThe journey begins with the science of lasers and fusion. Brian introduces the history and mission of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and offers a glimpse into the work happening at the National Ignition Facility\, including his personal connection to the groundbreaking achievement of fusion ignition. \nBrian then takes audiences behind the scenes at Skywalker Ranch\, sharing photographs and stories from his years working with George Lucas and contributing to the filmmaking process. \nThe program concludes with a hands-on look at fascinating science materials\, including:\n• a giant salt crystal\n• laser targets\n• aerogel—the world’s lightest manmade material \nGuests will have the chance to get up close with the materials and even hold a piece of aerogel for themselves.

SUMMARY:Science Extravaganza at Neenah Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we turn the library into the sci-brary! Explore science through fun demonstrations\, experiments\, and creative projects presented by local scientists and sci-thusiasts. \nAmerican Chemical Society of Northeast Wisconsin\nDiscover how chemistry builds our world! Build with biodegradable packing peanuts\, then experiment with freezing candy to see how temperature can change the properties of materials. \nWisconsin Sea Grant\nGet an up-close look at a sturgeon! Dr. Fish will present a dissected sturgeon and reveal its fascinating anatomy. Explore additional sturgeon specimens and displays—including a 6-week-old sturgeon and a replica of the record catch. \nYMCA of the Fox Cities\nRichard Imp\, Environmental Education Director\, will explore how our senses compare to those of animals. Discover how animals use their senses to find food\, avoid danger\, and survive in the wild through fun\, interactive activities. \nNeenah Public Library\nShine a light on the human body! Explore X-rays and create your own shine-the-light human body craft. \nCommunity Art & Science Project\nGet creative and add your own piece to a community art and science project! Your contribution will join artwork created by children\, families\, and adults across the region. Sponsored by Wisconsin Science Festival and Wisconsin Sea Grant\, the project will come together as one shared artwork—and Neenah participants will take home a piece of the experience! \nAll ages are welcome. Hands-on activities are geared for ages 5 – 13.  \nProgram will run from approximately 10:30am – Noon. This is a drop-in program. \nNo registration required.  While activities are ideal for ages 5 and up\, all ages are welcome.  A parent\, caregiver\, or responsible older child must be within sight and sound of children under 9. \nThis program will be held inside the library in the Shattuck Room. \nDirect questions or comments to Megan at mmeyer@neenahpubliclibrary.org. \nThis program was made possible by the Friends of the Neenah Library and the Neenah Public Library Trust Fund. Donations to the Friends and the Trust Fund (link to: https://neenahlibrary.org/donate) are always accepted and appreciated. \nEveryone is welcome. If accommodations are needed to attend\, please contact the library administrative office at 920-886-6315 or by email at library@neenahlibrary.org at least 24 hours in advance of the program.

SUMMARY:PRE-FESTIVAL EVENT: Adult Afternoon Program - Technology Use and Brain Wellness
DESCRIPTION:Join LaReina Tipping\, Program Manager\, from the Brain Center of Green Bay for Technology Use & Brain Wellness. \nTechnology use can actually cause structural changes in the brain. Pings\, alerts\, rings\, and notifications can shift our focus in a way that can lead to long-lasting difficulties with paying attention. Difficulties paying attention can lead to poorer performance on academic\, personal\, and professional tasks. \nLets embrace neuroplasticity\, be mindful and balance our technology use. \nThis program will last approximately one hour and will take place in the Shattuck Community Room. \nThis program was made possible by the Friends of the Neenah Library and the Neenah Public Library Trust Fund. Donations to the Friends and the Trust Fund are always accepted and appreciated. \nEveryone is welcome. If accommodations are needed to attend\, please contact the library administrative office at 920-886-6315 or by email at library@neenahlibrary.org at least 24 hours in advance of the program.
