SUMMARY:Forest Products Week Tour: Wilson State Nursery
DESCRIPTION:The Wilson State Nursery is the last remaining seedling production nursery operated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. We grow 40 species of bareroot native tree and shrub seedlings for sale to Wisconsin landowners\, as well as for reforestation on public lands. We distributed 4 million seedlings over a 5-week period this spring\, and we anticipate similar numbers next April. \nRegistration is required. SUMMARY:Exploring Climate Solutions: The Superpowers of Street Trees
DESCRIPTION:How can a crabapple tree be a weapon in the fight against climate change? Stop by this booth at the Superior Downtown Farmer’s Market to try out some hands-on activities that help answer this question. Staff from the LEAF K-12 Forestry Education Program will be on hand with tools like infrared thermometers and carbon sequestration measurement tapes that marketgoers can use to explore the benefits of street trees. We will also have information and resources related to planting edible forests. There will be fun things to do for both children and adults! No registration is required for this drop-in exhibit. \nThis is one of a series of events offered by the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education at UW-Stevens Point in partnership with the Wisconsin Science Festival. His company is made up of three properties\, The Pines\, The Oaks\, and The Hardwoods. This tour will be of the red pine plantation that is managed for utility pole production. The property is currently being marked for a timber sale\, and you’ll learn from both the landowner and the purchasing mill industrial forester about how the forest is managed and harvested for utility poles. \nRegistration is required.
