DESCRIPTION:Join us as we turn the library into the sci-brary. Engage in a variety of hands-on science activites presented by local scientists and sci-thuiasts. All ages are welcome. Hands-on activities are geared for ages 5 – 13. \nProgram will run from approximately 10:30am – Noon. This is a drop-in program. \nNo registration required. Why do native flowers matter? Where do bumble bees spend the winter? What does a bee need besides flowers? DESCRIPTION:School’s out! Come spend the day outdoors at the Lussier Heritage Center. Youth will spend the day exploring outside through a variety of activities including possibly prairie adventures\, canoeing\, fishing\, fort building\, snowshoeing\, sledding\, and more! Activities will be based on weather and time of year. A snack will be provided. Please pack an extra pair of clothes\, weather appropriate clothes\, closed toed shoes\, and a lunch. Lunch will not be provided. October 19th will be centered around environmental science. \nAge: 5-12*\nCost: $70 per child. \nRegister here! \nExtended care is available 4 – 5:30 pm for an additional $10 (there is no morning extended care). *Child must turn 5 before 9/1/26. \nAccessibility and Language Access:\nOur department is committed to providing meaningful access to our programs and resources to all individuals\, regardless of primary language or ability. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a tour of the Cedric A. Vig Outdoor Classroom\, the Rhinelander School District’s outdoor education and recreation center! CAVOC fosters environmental stewardship and lifelong learning through a dynamic outdoor curriculum. It combines structured and unstructured activities\, expert-led experiences\, and interdisciplinary teaching to develop socially and environmentally responsible citizens. Community engagement is core to its mission\, with programs like trail access\, lodge rentals\, and a Challenge Ropes Course encouraging collaboration and shared responsibility for the environment. \nParticipants will see the CAVOC lodge and grounds\, which includes the inside of the lodge itself (Great Room\, Rominsky Room\, Lu Berndt Classroom\, Animal Museum\, and Creation Lab). We will walk to the Long Lake pier and also the Bog Walk trail. DESCRIPTION:This is a free\, in-person talk hosted on October 19\, 2026 at 6:00 PM by Village of Cottage Grove Library Board in Cottage Grove\, WI. No registration is necessary for this event. This talk will not be held virtually.\n\nThere is no doubt that human-caused climate change is occurring. But\, some of the worst case scenarios are overblown\, over-hyped\, or bad science. Ankur Desai will review what we know to date about climate change impacts in Wisconsin and the work his lab and others have done to understand how we can mitigate or adapt to these effects while also preserving and improving our quality of life.\n\nAnkur Desai is a Professor of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the UW–Madison. He studies how ecosystems respond to climate variability and how the climate responds to ecological patterns and processes.
