During the Cedarburg History Museum’s Collectors Weekend\, visitors can see\, hear\, touch\, test\, and experience the technology of the past. \nThis special two-day event explores the science\, engineering\, mechanics\, and ingenuity behind everyday objects from earlier generations. See how a mechanical typewriter transforms the push of a key into a printed letter. Examine the gears\, levers\, springs\, and mechanisms inside vintage tools. Hear a working jukebox select and play a record. Visitors will also have opportunities to try their hand at vintage tools and historic technology and discover how people solved everyday problems long before computers and electronics. \nOn Saturday\, members of the Wisconsin Division of The Wheelmen will bring the science of early bicycling to life. The Wheelmen are part of a national organization of collectors\, restorers\, riders\, and historians dedicated to preserving America’s bicycling heritage. Their interests span the remarkable evolution of the bicycle—from early velocipedes and “boneshakers” to enormous high-wheel bicycles and the later “safety bicycle.” \nRather than simply displaying these machines\, Wheelmen traditionally ride and demonstrate historic bicycles\, helping audiences understand how and why their designs developed. At Collectors Weekend\, visitors can get an up-close look at the engineering of early bicycles and explore questions of balance\, gearing\, wheel size\, steering\, materials\, mechanical advantage\, and the physics that made these extraordinary machines work. \nOn Sunday\, the Cedarburg-based Rods-N-Relics Car Club takes the spotlight with vintage automobiles. The club brings together local automobile enthusiasts around its mission of “Fun with Cars” while also supporting the community\, including assistance for young people pursuing careers in the automotive field. Visitors can examine classic vehicles up close and discover how automotive technology evolved—from engines and transmissions to steering\, suspension\, braking\, and other mechanical systems. It’s an opportunity to talk directly with the people who collect\, maintain\, and preserve these pieces of transportation history. \nThroughout the weekend\, the museum will also feature a working jukebox\, typewriter demonstrations\, vintage tools to try\, and opportunities to explore materials from the Cedarburg History Museum Archives. Collectors and demonstrators will be on hand to answer questions and show how historic objects actually function. \nThis year’s Collectors Weekend will also honor Ruth Cook and her contributions to preserving and sharing local history. There will be charcuterie boards for the audience to snack on during the presentation. No registration required. This talk will not be available virtually.\n\nBirds have captured every corner of our planet. Long before modern birds appeared\, some dinosaurs started to show feathers rather than scales. With the help of powerful X-rays\, we are trying to disentangle the chemical remains in some of the most iconic dino-bird fossils\, including the famous Archaeopteryx\, and what we can learn about the life of these amazing creatures.\n\nUwe Bergmann is a Professor in the Physics Department of UW-Madison. He specializes on the development and application of novel X-ray techniques based on the most powerful x-ray sources. He has studies ancient manuscripts including the Archimedes Palimpsest\, fossils\, water\, and how plants split water to produce the oxygen we breath.

Join the Friends of Devil’s Lake\, Devil’s Lake State Park Naturalist\, and the Ice Age Trail Alliance Baraboo Hills / Heritage Chapter to hike the Devil’s Lake Segment! \nOn this hike\, you’ll hike about 10 miles of the Ice Age Trail. Meet at the Nature Center and start the hike with the West Bluff\, working east. This hike is difficult – attendees will be hiking up and down bluffs\, walking on uneven ground\, and up and down staircases. \nPack a lunch and bring some snacks and plenty of water. You will have a chance to fill up water bottles at both the North and South Shore Day use areas. We’ll stop for lunch and make snack stops\, too. \nIf you’re up for an adventure\, this is the hike for you! This hike is best for adults and teenagers. \nThis is an official Mammoth Hike Challenge event! Earn the miles on the hike\, along with 5 bonus miles. After the hike\, join us at the Tumbled Rock Brewery for an Ice Age Trail hiker meet-up! Look for the Friends of Devil’s Lake banner. \nEven if you don’t join the hike\, you’re invited to join us at the brewery for a beverage and conversation about being an IAT thru-hiker.

DESCRIPTION:There’s a tiny endangered neighbor living in Wisconsin—and you might walk right past one without ever knowing it. \nMeet the rusty patched bumble bee\, one of Wisconsin’s native bumble bees and the first bumble bee species in the United States to receive federal protection under the Endangered Species Act. \nThen head outside and explore the kind of world a bumble bee needs. \nAt Treinen Farm in Lodi\, Wisconsin\, our 2026 corn maze theme\, The Birds and the Bees\, takes guests into the wonderfully strange science of pollination\, reproduction\, biodiversity\, birds\, bees\, and the many ways living things depend on one another. \nBeyond the corn maze\, explore our restored prairie and oak savanna and look more closely at the flowers\, insects\, birds\, and habitats around you. Why do native flowers matter? Where do bumble bees spend the winter? What does a bee need besides flowers? And just what is that “rusty patch\,” anyway? \nCome get lost in the maze—and leave looking at the little things around you differently. \nWho: All ages are welcome. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.\nAdmission: Regular Treinen Farm admission applies. DESCRIPTION:Join Prescott Public Library for a Nature Scavenger Hunt as part of the Wisconsin Science Festival BioBlitz! Take pictures of what you find on your hike and submit it to iNaturalist\, a community citizen science app. It may seem like fun and games (which it definitely is!)\, but we are also collecting important data for scientists to use for their research! There will be a raffle and freebies available for attendees to take home as well. \nThis program will be located at Freedom Park (200 Monroe St\, Prescott\, WI 54021). \nHot chocolate and water will be provided for attendees.
