DESCRIPTION:Join us as we turn the library into the sci-brary. Engage in a variety of hands-on science activites presented by local scientists and sci-thuiasts. All ages are welcome. DESCRIPTION:This is a free\, in-person talk hosted on October 17\, 2026 at 1:00 PM by Iron Ridge Public Library in Iron Ridge\, WI. Registration is encouraged\, but not required. More info to come on how to register. There will be no virtual option for this event. This event is a part of the Wisconsin Science Festival! \nStudies show that feelings of belonging are the number one indicator of retention in STEM. The ability of students to see themselves in STEM spaces is crucial to building this sense of belonging. At the same time\, students are only able to envision themselves as scientists in as much as they are doing science. An ACORNS program is a highly interactive\, tactile STEM-themed activity. These could include modeling planet formation with ice cream and cookies\, exploring stellar fusion with the ingredients of s’mores\, and measuring the speed of light using a chocolate bar. \nThis shift from a lecture-style format to a hands-on\, student-led dialogue allows for an immersive STEM experience\, highlighting both that science can be fun\, accessible\, and messy\, but also that anyone is capable of doing it\, regardless of expertise. Science is a state of mind\, defined by curiosity–and every person has plenty of that. \nZach Lewis is a graduate student in astronomy at UW-Madison. His research focuses on the evolution of elements inside galaxies. He uses JWST observations of distant galaxies to characterize how stars produce elements and eject them into their host galaxy\, and how those elements then escape the galaxy or form new stars. \nRegistration link coming soon!

Show starts at 8pm at the Barrymore Theatre. GA doors open at 7pm. \nPurchase your tickets here! \nZach Reino and Jessica McKenna are a versatile musical comedy duo. They wrote and composed music for the WGA award-winning Peacock Series Baking It starring Maya Rudolph\, Amy Poehler and Andy Samberg. The duo has also written songs and musical sketches for the hit animation show Rick and Morty\, Party Over Here (a Fox sketch show produced by The Lonely Island)\, the Peacock series Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin\, Buzzfeed\, FunnyOrDie and Nickelodeon. Zach and Jess are currently developing TV and Film projects with Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions\, David Wain (The State\, Role Models\, Wanderlust) and Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions. They also created and starred in Serious Music\, a digital series for ABC.  \nTheir improvised musical podcast Off Book has been praised by various online publications including Indie Wire\, USA Today\, Parade\, AV Club and Splitsider and been featured at Comedy Central’s Clusterfest Festival\, Moontower\, the world renowned Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal\, and the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in LA. SUMMARY:School’s Out Science Day
DESCRIPTION:School’s out! Come spend the day outdoors at the Lussier Heritage Center. Youth will spend the day exploring outside through a variety of activities including possibly prairie adventures\, canoeing\, fishing\, fort building\, snowshoeing\, sledding\, and more! Activities will be based on weather and time of year. A snack will be provided. Please pack an extra pair of clothes\, weather appropriate clothes\, closed toed shoes\, and a lunch. Lunch will not be provided. October 19th will be centered around environmental science. \nAge: 5-12*\nCost: $70 per child. \nRegister here! \nExtended care is available 4 – 5:30 pm for an additional $10 (there is no morning extended care). *Child must turn 5 before 9/1/26. \nAccessibility and Language Access:\nOur department is committed to providing meaningful access to our programs and resources to all individuals\, regardless of primary language or ability. If you need language assistance services or an accessibility modification for this program\, please submit this request form a minimum of 10 business days before the program to make the request.
