SUMMARY:Craft/Work Exhibition Open House
DESCRIPTION:Join Ebling Library’s Curator of Historical Collections for an exhibition open house of “Craft/Work: A History of Occupational and Art Therapies.” Drawn from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s medical history collections\, the exhibition traces the intersections of psychiatry\, disability rights\, social work\, and art across three centuries to explore how art- and craftmaking affect our wellbeing. Craft/Work moves from the French Revolutionary origins of “moral treatment” in asylums to the emergence of occupational therapy from the Arts and Crafts and Settlement House movements to the surprising influence of Bauhaus emigrés on theories of art therapy. \nPlease note that the exhibition includes materials that depict graphic wartime injuries and full-frontal male nudity. Historical materials may also use outdated and potentially harmful language to refer to a variety of mental and physical disabilities. Please take care when attending. \nRecommended for PG13+ \n

SUMMARY:Tiny Bee. Big Deal. - Searching Treinen Farm for the Rusty Patched Bumblebee
DESCRIPTION:There’s a tiny endangered neighbor living in Wisconsin—and you might walk right past one without ever knowing it. \nMeet the rusty patched bumble bee\, one of Wisconsin’s native bumble bees and the first bumble bee species in the United States to receive federal protection under the Endangered Species Act. \nThen head outside and explore the kind of world a bumble bee needs. \nAt Treinen Farm in Lodi\, Wisconsin\, our 2026 corn maze theme\, The Birds and the Bees\, takes guests into the wonderfully strange science of pollination\, reproduction\, biodiversity\, birds\, bees\, and the many ways living things depend on one another. \nBeyond the corn maze\, explore our restored prairie and oak savanna and look more closely at the flowers\, insects\, birds\, and habitats around you. Why do native flowers matter? Where do bumble bees spend the winter? What does a bee need besides flowers? And just what is that “rusty patch\,” anyway? \nCome get lost in the maze—and leave looking at the little things around you differently. \nWho: All ages are welcome. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.\nAdmission: Regular Treinen Farm admission applies. Children ages 2 and under are free.\nTickets: https://www.treinenfarm.com\nLocation: Treinen Farm Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch\, Lodi\, Wisconsin\nParking: Free parking is available at the farm. \nThis is an outdoor event on a working farm. Dress for the weather and wear shoes ready for grass\, dirt\, gravel\, and possibly mud.

SUMMARY:Off Book - The Improvised Musical
DESCRIPTION:Off Book – The Improvised Musical is coming to Madison! Comedians Jessica McKenna and Zach Reino create a completely improvised musical in an attempt to combat the notion that musicals should be “carefully crafted” or “thought out at all.” This show will have a special science theme in celebration of the Wisconsin Science Festival so come ready to yes\, and…science! Show starts at 8pm at the Barrymore Theatre. GA doors open at 7pm. \nPurchase your tickets here! \nZach Reino and Jessica McKenna are a versatile musical comedy duo. They wrote and composed music for the WGA award-winning Peacock Series Baking It starring Maya Rudolph\, Amy Poehler and Andy Samberg. The duo has also written songs and musical sketches for the hit animation show Rick and Morty\, Party Over Here (a Fox sketch show produced by The Lonely Island)\, the Peacock series Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin\, Buzzfeed\, FunnyOrDie and Nickelodeon. Zach and Jess are currently developing TV and Film projects with Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions\, David Wain (The State\, Role Models\, Wanderlust) and Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions. They also created and starred in Serious Music\, a digital series for ABC.  \nTheir improvised musical podcast Off Book has been praised by various online publications including Indie Wire\, USA Today\, Parade\, AV Club and Splitsider and been featured at Comedy Central’s Clusterfest Festival\, Moontower\, the world renowned Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal\, and the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in LA. Zach and Jess were listed as one of Vulture’s “Comedians You Should and Will Know” and in early 2019 they released their first full-length musical comedy album The Calendar Album with Comedy Dynamics.
