SUMMARY:2026 Science on the Square - Madison Night Market Fusion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for one fantastic night blending science with downtown Madison businesses! \nBack for its ninth year\, the ever-popular Science on the Square event is again fusing with the Madison Night Market to create a unique way to explore hands-on science activities while also supporting local businesses and vendors. In 2026\, our festival focus is on Us – celebrating the science of humans and the humans who do science. \nAt Science on the Square\, outdoor STEAM-themed activities will mix with Madison Night Market vendor tents throughout State Street. Indoor locations will showcase interesting exhibits\, talks\, and hands-on activities for you to check out as well. Learn more about the science that surrounds us every day while exploring downtown Madison. Be sure to stop by the top of State Street (near the capitol) to see physics demonstrations and more! \nThe Wisconsin Science Festival and Madison’s Central Business Improvement District are proud to bring you an event you won’t want to miss. Join us in downtown Madison between 5 and 9 p.m. on Thursday\, October 15\, for fun for all ages! \nInformation about participating businesses and hands-on stations will be available closer to the event! \nWant to learn more? Check out our Science on the Square blogs in the ArcHive!

SUMMARY:Craft/Work Exhibition Open House
DESCRIPTION:Join Ebling Library’s Curator of Historical Collections for an exhibition open house of “Craft/Work: A History of Occupational and Art Therapies.” Drawn from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s medical history collections\, the exhibition traces the intersections of psychiatry\, disability rights\, social work\, and art across three centuries to explore how art- and craftmaking affect our wellbeing. Craft/Work moves from the French Revolutionary origins of “moral treatment” in asylums to the emergence of occupational therapy from the Arts and Crafts and Settlement House movements to the surprising influence of Bauhaus emigrés on theories of art therapy. \nPlease note that the exhibition includes materials that use outdated and potentially harmful language to refer to a variety of mental and physical disabilities. Please take care when attending.

SUMMARY:Scientists in all of US
DESCRIPTION:There is a Scientist in all of us! Join us at the Pauline Haass Public Library to discover the science hidden in everyday life. We’re bringing science “down to earth” as we learn to think like scientists about the big and small things we do every day.\nWe’ll also explore how our local community helpers use science to get the job done! Have you ever wondered how science keeps us safe\, helps us cook a meal\, gets us from place to place\, or keeps us healthy? Here is your chance to turn that curiosity into discovery!
