During the Cedarburg History Museum’s Collectors Weekend\, visitors can see\, hear\, touch\, test\, and experience the technology of the past. \nThis special two-day event explores the science\, engineering\, mechanics\, and ingenuity behind everyday objects from earlier generations. See how a mechanical typewriter transforms the push of a key into a printed letter. Examine the gears\, levers\, springs\, and mechanisms inside vintage tools. Hear a working jukebox select and play a record. Visitors will also have opportunities to try their hand at vintage tools and historic technology and discover how people solved everyday problems long before computers and electronics. \nOn Saturday\, members of the Wisconsin Division of The Wheelmen will bring the science of early bicycling to life. The Wheelmen are part of a national organization of collectors\, restorers\, riders\, and historians dedicated to preserving America’s bicycling heritage. Their interests span the remarkable evolution of the bicycle—from early velocipedes and “boneshakers” to enormous high-wheel bicycles and the later “safety bicycle.” \nRather than simply displaying these machines\, Wheelmen traditionally ride and demonstrate historic bicycles\, helping audiences understand how and why their designs developed. At Collectors Weekend\, visitors can get an up-close look at the engineering of early bicycles and explore questions of balance\, gearing\, wheel size\, steering\, materials\, mechanical advantage\, and the physics that made these extraordinary machines work. \nOn Sunday\, the Cedarburg-based Rods-N-Relics Car Club takes the spotlight with vintage automobiles. The club brings together local automobile enthusiasts around its mission of “Fun with Cars” while also supporting the community\, including assistance for young people pursuing careers in the automotive field. Visitors can examine classic vehicles up close and discover how automotive technology evolved—from engines and transmissions to steering\, suspension\, braking\, and other mechanical systems. It’s an opportunity to talk directly with the people who collect\, maintain\, and preserve these pieces of transportation history. \nThroughout the weekend\, the museum will also feature a working jukebox\, typewriter demonstrations\, vintage tools to try\, and opportunities to explore materials from the Cedarburg History Museum Archives. Collectors and demonstrators will be on hand to answer questions and show how historic objects actually function. \nThis year’s Collectors Weekend will also honor Ruth Cook and her contributions to preserving and sharing local history. SUMMARY:The Science of Human Thriving: Celebrating 100 Years of the Child Development Lab
DESCRIPTION:The Science of Human Thriving: Celebrating 100 Years of the Child Development Lab exhibits the innovative\, research-based work of University of Wisconsin–Madison teachers\, faculty\, scholars\, and students in the science of early relational health. Rooted in this history\, visitors are encouraged to consider how design shapes the spaces where children play\, learn\, and explore. Interactive displays and replicated study scenarios invite visitors into the world of the Child Development Lab throughout its first 100 years\, with a focus on the research that takes place at every level in support of the social\, emotional\, and educational development of UW’s youngest students. \nThis exhibition is curated by Dr. Sarah Anne Carter\, Chipstone Foundation Design and Material Culture Chair\, Associate Professor of Design Studies\, and Executive Director of the Nancy M. Bruce Center for Design and Material Culture\, in collaboration with Saffron Gonzalez\, the Child Development Lab Centennial Project Coordinator\, and many generous colleagues in the Child Development Lab and Human Development and Family Studies Department. The Science of Human Thriving and its related programs are made possible with support from the Anonymous Fund\, many generous donors and partners who share the vision of the Nancy M. Bruce Center for Design and Material Culture\, and the School of Human Ecology. The center creates meaningful opportunities for students\, faculty\, and the broader community to engage with textiles\, design\, and material culture. \nIn 2026\, University of Wisconsin–Madison’s School of Human Ecology is marking 100 years of its Child Development Lab\, among the first university-based preschool laboratories of its kind in the U.S.\, and celebrating its leading role in the field of early relational health. DESCRIPTION:Join Ebling Library’s Curator of Historical Collections for an exhibition open house of “Craft/Work: A History of Occupational and Art Therapies.” Drawn from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s medical history collections\, the exhibition traces the intersections of psychiatry\, disability rights\, social work\, and art across three centuries to explore how art- and craftmaking affect our wellbeing. Craft/Work moves from the French Revolutionary origins of “moral treatment” in asylums to the emergence of occupational therapy from the Arts and Crafts and Settlement House movements to the surprising influence of Bauhaus emigrés on theories of art therapy. \nPlease note that the exhibition includes materials that depict graphic wartime injuries and full-frontal male nudity. Historical materials may also use outdated and potentially harmful language to refer to a variety of mental and physical disabilities. Please take care when attending. \nRecommended for PG13+ \n

Why do native flowers matter? Where do bumble bees spend the winter? What does a bee need besides flowers? And just what is that “rusty patch\,” anyway? \nCome get lost in the maze—and leave looking at the little things around you differently. \nWho: All ages are welcome.
