VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP: WATCH RECORDING HERE
Power from plants? Rebecca Smith is a plant biologist at the Wisconsin Energy Institute who researches ways to make fuels from plants like poplar trees and prairie grass. Join us on Oct. 22 to meet Rebecca, tour a state-of-the-art laboratory, and ask questions about how plants can be a solution to climate change.
This is an online event.
• Article and short video profile of Rebecca
• Microbes and More: A 360 Laboratory Tour: Step behind-the-scenes into a tour of an active Wisconsin Energy Institute lab, three floors above Rebecca’s lab.
• Biofuels Story: What is the difference between biofuels and fossil fuels? Why are researchers at GLBRC investigating making biofuels from grasses and other inedible plant material? This short interactive presentation introduces why GLBRC is researching making biofuels from non-food crops and traces the key steps in the production of biofuels from different plant materials. The presentation also explores the differences between biofuels and fossil fuels’ role in the carbon cycle.
