PRE-FESTIVAL EVENT: Badger Talks Live – The Problems of Invasive Fungi

Tuesday10/1112:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Anne Pringle, Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Botany and Bacteriology, explores the fascinating world of mushrooms and fungi.

The Pringle laboratory focuses on the biology of species whose life histories and body plans seem very different from our own. Fungi encompass a heterogeneous array of both microbes and macrobes.  Learn about how Anne Pringle’s lab uses fungi as tools to test and elucidate general principles of ecology and evolution, and some of the recent problems that have been encountered.

L&S Mary Herman Rubinstein and Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor of Botany and Bacteriology,  Dr. Anne Pringle obtained her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Chicago in 1993, and completed her doctoral degree in Botany and Genetics at Duke University in 2001. Pringle continued her postdoctoral training as a Miller Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, where she began work with the death cap fungus. In 2005, she joined the Organismic and Evolutionary Biology department at Harvard University. For her passion towards scientific teaching and mentoring, she was awarded at Harvard University the Fannie Cox Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching (2013), and the Mendelsohn Excellence in Mentoring Award (2011). In 2015, Pringle moved to the University of Wisconsin, where she continues studying the complex kingdom of fungi. Learn more about Pringle’s research at her lab website.
