Introduction to the History, Technique and Art of Bonsai

Tuesday10/176:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Members of the Madison-based Badger Bonsai Society are proud to offer an introduction to the art of bonsai (pronounced “bone-sigh” … not “ban-zai”). The presentation will include a review of the history of bonsai and how this centuries-old art form has made its way into the popular culture today. We will discuss and present some examples of the basic design and styling aspects and provide a overview of tools, pots and soils, as well as illustrating techniques typically used to develop and care for a bonsai throughout its lifetime. In addition we will demonstrate how a typical and inexpensive nursery tree can be “worked on” as a start toward the development of a suitable bonsai tree.
